Wine A Little

red wine

What’s so good about grapes? Ummm… they become wine with a little TLC and the right barrel. Napa Valley’s fall colors and cooler temperatures made the perfect backdrop as we sipped, sampled and tasted the weekend away. I am confident I reversed my aging by at least a week with the amount of wine consumed in one weekend …

Wine a little with me. Red wine has antioxidants that may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of “good” cholesterol and protecting against artery damage. Wine also has resveratrol, a fun little compound that kicks the sh*t out of cancer cells’ DNA. And unlike most alcohol wine seems to reduce insulin resistance in diabetic patients, according to a little school called Harvard. The French love wine and the Mediterranean meal isn’t complete without it. Could these cultures be on to something? Drink a little wine daily – 1 glass for the ladies and up to 2 for the gents – to reap the benefits. Beneficial research that also increases life’s fun factor! It’s my pleasure and joy to find these little gems as a wellness coach.

I love to pair wine & snacks for easy entertaining. Try pairing wine with any of the following: figs, goat cheese, rosemary & walnuts, dried cranberries, chocolate, a little prosciutto, berries, pistachios or stone-ground crackers with pepper & a little parmesan.

Open & sip a bottle with a friend, a loved one or a stranger in passing, if you’re feeling bold. Want to increase your wine I.Q.? Visit a few of my favorite blogs on the topic: jamie goode’s wine blog, Dr. Vino and Alice Feiring. What’s your color and flavor favorite? And if you want to see more pictures from our Napa weekend, head over to Flickr.
