The Duo Dishes

If East coasters think they’re the only coast that can throw an authentic seafood broil, they haven’t met dynamic  pairing of Duo Dishes. Last Saturday my friend Rachel and I headed an hour north of Los Angeles to the beachside town of Ventura. The afternoon was way more than seafood. It was my first chance to meet Chrystal and Amir – better known as The Duo Dishes - at their 3rd annual Seafood Broil. I had the pleasure of meeting these creative culinary minds last summer as we participated in the Alexia Foods “Reinvent A Classic” contest with the Federated Media and Daily Buzz Food.

I so appreciate bloggers hosting events of this kind! It gets us away from our computers, phones, tablets, etc. and into conversation, laughter and sharing good food “IRL”! Joining the parter were 50 or so of their very cool friends from L.A.’s food and blogging scene. Beach. Seafood. Music. Adult beverages. Not to mention the super-cute seafood stand, The Jolly Oyster.

What I most admire about Chrystal and Amir, aside from their incredible recipes, is that they know the value of their brand and how to work with larger brands and companies. They had great sponsors for the Seafood Broil. Like Alaska Seafood, California Olive Ranch and Calphalon. Find yummy endive recipes (like the pic above) from another Seafood Broil sponsor, the Discover Endive. And learn more about the event like this from Kitchen Play.  Pssttt… Kitchen Play loves bloggers!

Shhhh… the best thing about picnics and dining al fresco is the addition of four-legged friends! How cute is this little face!?! Before heading out I was able to snap a quick picture with one half of The Duo – they were busy tending to guests and food. Many thanks to both of them for a chance to escape the computer and the kitchen and spend time truly savoring the finder parts of life.
