Happy FRY-DAY! Maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle makes you feel just fine about giving into temptation every now and again. One of my favorite indulgent foods – French Fries! Ask my boyfriend – I’ve been stealing from him for over six years! Earlier this year I received shipment of French Fries – gourmet varieties using organic ingredients, but with just the right amount of sin. I’ve been buying Alexia Foods’ products to accompany meals when we grill for years and was thrilled when they sent a sample of their products plus a few that were not yet on the market.

Top-secret potato products? You bet! And last week I was approached by Alexia Foods (okay, technically their rockin’ PR firm, JSH&A out of Chicago) to be one of 20-25 food & healthy lifestyle bloggers who are competing to create Alexia’s newest French Fry as part of their “Reinvent A Classic” challenge. We can choose from one of two types of potatoes: Russet Potato or a Sweet Potato (vote on which you want! Sweet Potatoes are winning!). Then there’s the matter of shape: Julienne, Crinkle, Waffle or Wedge.

Over the the next 4 weeks I’ll be working on my French Fry submission (ultimate goal – going to the Foodbuzz Blogger Festival in San Francisco and of, course, having the winning fry!), sharing my progress every FRYDAY! Below are my potato types and a few of my inspirational flavors. I want my fries to have a healthy spin, using fresh ingredients and lots of herbs. As part of the party, I have coupons for *FREE* Alexia Foods products, which will be given away on Monday (giveaway is now closed)!

    French fries are my absolute weakness! My “healthier” version happens to be throwing a handful of Alexia Sweet Potato fries into the over. If I only cook 15 fries, I can only eat 15 fries!

    My major LOVE is ice cream…my remedy is fruit sorbet or just frozen fruit with a little bit of stevia on top! Now, I prefer sorbet to ice cream. Favorite brand- Ciao Bella. Favorite flavor- Blackberry Cabernet.

    Total weakness – NACHOS! Thankfully in health friendly LA we have vegan nachos at Native Foods (and other places), and I also make a pretty mean homemade nacho that’s not so terrible for you :)

    I’ve never tried Alexia foods, but am really looking forward to testing it out. Thank you for the write up and recommendation!!

    My supreme weakness is French fries. I {love} me some extra crispy French fries! A healthier version of that food, would be to make mash potatoes — or even bake potato with just salt and pepper!
