Dream Big: Brittney Castro

BRITTNEY-INTRO.jpg

Brittney Castro is a new breed of financial planner: forward-thinking, dynamic, social media-savvy, and the go-to consultant for your financial future. She helps women – like us! – create the road map needed to achieve their big dreams. Brittney and I met this past March at the Fierce Leadership Summit, where we both shared a little bit about our respective areas of expertise. We’ve had fun exchanging posts, tweets and being active in the female entrepreneurial scene in Los Angeles. I also recently learned that Brittney has a very creative side and loves to paint! Find this very social gal on Twitter, Facebook and check out her series of interviews on the Financially Wise Women™ YouTube channel.

Why you should know Brittney:

I am a 28 year old woman living in Los Angeles, working as a Financial Planner, in search of my true self. I have been dabbling in Buddhism and meditation for over 10 years now and am finally at a point in my life where I am ready to take it to the next level.

What are your big dreams in life?

My big dreams are to live a life of truth, travel often, laugh often, serve others and truly enjoy each and every moment that life gives me. I want to challenge the status quo, question everything, live the best version of myself and never stop growing and learning.

When will you feel like you’ve succeeded?

I think success is when I can create my own rules and actually live my own truth.  When I am able to live my life and truly not care what about others think.  I have been working hard on getting to that point and am getting close.

Define wellness:

Loving myself always. Also, it means finding peace and happiness within myself and taking care of my mind, body and spirit each and every day.

How do you take care of you?

I workout regularly and try to eat healthy most days. Lately, I have been putting a lot of time and energy into my business so I am now taking some to focus on other areas of my life. For me this means allowing time for my creative outlets, hobbies, spirituality, friends and family.  So in essence I am allowing more time in my schedule to just enjoy “being” instead of “doing.”

How do you structure your day?

I am a planner by nature so I can get carried away with structuring and planning every second of my day. The truth is I am also very free-spirited so I need to remind myself to leave time in my calendar to just be. Time when I turn off my phone, don’t check emails or my social media accounts and just enjoy being in the moment. For me, it usually means doing something outside, like a walk, hike with my dog, meditating or reading at the park. Without those moments in my day and week, it can get too overwhelming and stressful. I think as much as we are “on” in life, we also need to make time to be “off” and just live in the moment.

Give us a sense of your environment.

My office is organized. I like to have things in order so I am clear on what my top priorities are for the day. I like things simple and clean, modern and fresh.

Tell us about your perfect day – start to finish.

Wake up next to the love of my life and my doggy. Eat breakfast in bed. Have a morning love-making session. Then head off to enjoy some sort of art or culture experience. Maybe a movie, art exhibit, museum or cultural garden.  Grab lunch at our favorite café. Head to the beach for an afternoon nap.  Enjoy a glass of champagne under the sun while talking about life with my lover. Head to my turbo kick boxing class followed by yoga. Then get ready and head out to dinner, drinks and dancing with friends. End the evening with friends, joking, laughing and simply enjoying life.

Who would leave you star-struck?

From the entertainment world, it would have to be Natalie Portman. I have always said that if I meet her, all I would want to do is hug her. She just seems like a really smart, talented and beautiful woman to know. Outside of the entertainment world, it would have to be authors of the books I read. I am totally a book groupie. For example, when I saw Keith Ferrazzi, author of “Never Eat Alone,” I was so giddy and star struck my heart was pounding when I introduced myself to him.

A quote that best describes your outlook on life:

Create your own rules in life. Life truthfully and authentically and stop worrying about what others think you should do and do what you want to do in life. When you are clear on what you want out of life, the universe will conspire to help you get it.

Share a secret with us!

I smoked my first cigarette last week. After 28 years of life, I finally decided to give it a try. It was fun but overall smoking is not for me.
