Dream Big: Breanna Rose

Dream Big: Breanna Rose Earlier this summer I found Jess Constable’s “Things I’m Afraid To Tell You” post … and a few rabbit holes later + writing my own TIATTY post, I happily stumbled upon the blog of a very cute designer and entrepreneur based in Minneapolis, MN, who also wrote a TIATTY list. I commented, she replied and much to my delight Bre agreed to be a part of the “Dream BIG” series (hooray!). You must check out her design styles. They’re sweet, fresh and filled with inspiration. Get your “like” on and send a tweet to this cute little bird @imbreannarose

Why you should know Bre:

I am a freelance graphic + web designer living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota! I have a simple yet quirky personality, which I think parallels nicely with my design aesthetic. I started up a blog in 2011, which is really an extension of myself. It’s basically an online journal for me to post about my life and the things that inspire me in all the right ways. I really enjoy networking and connecting with others (three cheers for the internet!), so I couldn’t be more happy to be on the crazy ride that is my own little business.

What are your big dreams in life?

I’ve always wanted to have my own design studio. Although I’m freelancing and doing my own thing now, I think it would be cool to start up business with a handful of other designers in a cool space downtown and just run with it! I’ve had the opportunity to work with many other designers and developers on collaborations, so I understand just how powerful a talented + motivated team can be.

When will you feel like you’ve succeeded?

This is a difficult question, because I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’ve 100% succeeded. To me, I’m always wanting to challenge myself and keep going. There will always be more I can learn and new things to try. However, I really am proud and happy at what i’ve accomplished in such a short time. I have to pinch myself everyday that I’m on the path to my dream!

Define wellness:

I would define wellness as feeling content both mentally and physically. There are different ways to get there for each of these things, but I think it’s super important that you are happy in the way you’re living your life. If something doesn’t feel right, fix it!

How do you take care of you?

I’m a foodie, so I’ll be the first one to tell you that I don’t always eat healthy. Cupcakes and ice cream sneak in way more than I care to admit. However, I like to manage my portions and practice control, which is hard!! I don’t drink pop or coffee. Water and flavored drinks are where it’s at, in my book! I also try my best to work out 4-5 times a week. Whether it’s running outside or hitting up the gym, those endorphins sure do help.

How do you structure your day?

I’m always working towards a balance between work and life. To do this, I’ve come up with a little routine that I like to follow and change up every so often! Mornings are filled with breakfast and inspiration. Afternoons are the time to get lost in work. And finally, after dinner, it’s “me” time. Whether I’m spending time with others, going out for a run to let loose, or relaxing on the couch, it’s the perfect way to cool down and enjoy the evening!

Give us a sense of your environment.

I’m an organized neat freak – through and through. I also like white space, so the only things on my white ikea desk are my computer, keyboard, and mouse. Minimal to the extreme, huh?! Don’t worry, I have things that inspire me carefully placed on the shelves and walls near my desk – but overall, I just really enjoy simplicity. I feel that I work better in a clean environment.

Tell us about your perfect day – start to finish.

I would wake up in either Paris or Italy. My closest friends and I would venture out into the streets and find a little breakfast nook with a patio and visit, mimosas included. Afterward, we’d walk around all afternoon, picnic in the grass, check out museums (you know, get all touristy), and enjoy each other’s company. Finally, we’d find a tasty restaurant for dinner and just get lost for hours enjoying amazingly authentic food and the city’s night lights. Although it sounds pretty simple – if you give me a little adventure, food, and friends – I’m golden.

Who would leave you star-struck?

Honestly, I don’t have a clue. And I’m not sure if I’d feel starstruck, because I’d be trying hard to just be normal … which I can fake real well, ha!

A quote that best describes your outlook on life:

My favorite quote is “Make things as simple as possible, but not simpler,” by Albert Einstein. To me, it’s important to keep life simple. It can be hard to practice this, but I feel most comfortable and content when I’m doing what I love, with the people I care about most. Plus, this quote totally appeals to my aesthetic as a designer, too!

Share a secret with us!

Well, I can’t whistle. And I feel really lame about that! I don’t feel like that’s jucy enough, so I’ll leave you with my “Things I’m Afraid To Tell You” post, which I published a few weeks ago. I can’t begin to tell you how good it felt to share all of it!
