11×30 Lists

WELL in L.A. "11 x 30" Countdown Lists

I have a milestone birthday lurking on the horizon. By lurking, I mean 11 months down the road. I’ve been inspired by the countdown and blog created by my friend Kate. I wanted a unique way to celebrate the number 30 my way. To date in my life I’ve focused on balancing things, dabbling in writing every other day or meditation a few times a week. I want to shake up year #29 and try immersion (thanks, Nicole for the intro), testing the theory that intensely focusing on one thing produces the best results. I’ve never devoted full concentration to any of the items on the list. If I do 30 days of yoga, will my feet touch the mat? Will 30 days of green juice and no coffee make me a lean, green machine? These will be challenges, but the purpose of this exercise is to engage in a year of big growth.

I’m kicking off 31 days of eating vegetarian – no meat at all! – beginning July 1st. The inherent challenge here… I’m in the Midwest for the first part of July and there’s a trip to Memphis planned. Resisting those Memphis-style ribs on Beale Street is going to be tough ;). In addition to travel, there’s that whole wedding thing happening! Bring on the challenges.

1.) 31 Days of Eating Vegetarian // July 2012

2.) 31 Days of Eating Vegan // August 2012

3.) 30 Days of Eating Raw // September 2012

4.) 31 Days of Yoga // October 2012

5.) 30 Days of Meditation // November 2012

6.) 31 Days of Writing // December 2012

7.) 31 Days of Green Juices// January 2013

8.) 28 Days of Gratitude // February 2013

9.) 30 Days Writing Letters // March 2013

10.) 30 Days of the BIG Ask // April 2013

11.) 30 Days of Travel // May 2013

My 30th Birthday: May 30th, 2013. My plan is to outline the “rules” for the 30 days on the 1st of each month and share a weekly update & overall progress/feelings about the 30 days. Want to see what’s on my full life list? Check out this post with the link and a spreadsheet you can use to organize your hopes, dreams & goals.

Do you have a milestone birthday on the horizon? What do you want to accomplish before the big day?

  1. OMG I LOVE this! So beautiful and wish I had thought of that 4 years ago :) 30 is awesome but 33 is even more magical — this year was my re-birth!

I love hearing this, Marissa! I think 30 is the start of something big! I cannot wait and know all the good that’s coming is going to be an incredible amount of growth, change and fun.

Love it! There is no number that isn’t magical, so celebrating yourself starts now and lasts forever.

PS I had an all meat feast planned for the birthday dinners. Even meat cake ;)

I love this!!! My friend (a nutritionist) did a “diet to death” campaign where she tried a different fad diet for a certain period of time and then reviewed it… the intensive short-term part of it is so intriguing to me! Also I ate vegan for the month of Jan… and will tell you my thoughts when I see you next :) Congrats on your goals! xx

  4. Scarlet says:

Very inspiring..Love it! Wish you best of luck on this grand journey! :)

  5. Emma says:

Erin I absolutely love this idea! I’m the type of person who loves to focus on one thing at a time, so this would be perfect for me :) xx

  6. LOVE THIS. Congrats on setting your goals – can’t wait to hear about your journey each month!!

  7. Sarah H says:

Oh Erin I adore this… and support you 100%. I know you’re going to kick ass, woman. :)

  8. christine says:

love these goals and the idea of separating them out by month!

  9. Hi Erin –
We are on the same wavelength on this project, very cool…I started my 30 months of 30 day projects last year – going vegan this month, and tried meditating recently too. My favorite so far was getting in the ocean every day. Check it out at 30x30x30.com Good luck with yours! :)

  10. Great idea- I love challenges, they bring encouragement & motivation. It’s also beautiful that you are being so intentional and mindful about approaching your milestone birthday. I did something similar (101 in 1,001 days) when I was a newlywed. You started out with the “hard ones” (at least they’d be hard for me!)- can’t wait to see 30 days of travel :)

  11. [...] and instead of making a long list of vague goals for the new year, I’ve been inspired by well in L.A. to make 12 BIG goals and mindfully practice each of them for 30 days. This way I can truly focus [...]
